The Zirconia Flap Disc is the volume workhorse of our angle grinder lineup — the grain chemistry behind more daily-use flap discs in metal shops than any other. Self-sharpening zirconia alumina micro-fractures progressively under load, delivering aggressive cut and consistent disc life on carbon steel, structural steel, mild stainless, and dense hardwoods. The signature blue color is industry shorthand for zirconia performance: a clear step up from aluminum oxide in cut rate and life, at a much more accessible price point than ceramic.
72 overlapping zirconia flaps are bonded to a rigid fiberglass plate, with a Type 27 (flat) or Type 29 (10° conical) profile depending on whether you're working flat surfaces or contoured welds. Resin-over-resin bond holds grain through the high pressures and arc-heat of structural fabrication. The flap construction continuously exposes fresh grain as outer flaps wear — predictable cut from start to end of disc life.
